May Day with enthusiasm in Contramaestre

The workers’ movement of the southeastern municipality of Contramaestre celebrates May Day, in an atypical way. This date has been celebrated in Cuba since 1890 and has as precedent the events that took place in the U.S. city of Chicago.

In this eastern territory of Santiago, the workers’ celebration is dedicated to unity, duty and commitment to the homeland and its leaders. A day of celebration that was preceded by various union activities among which were highlighted those related to support for food production, blood donations and recognition of workers’ groups with outstanding work in the CTC.

May Day in Contramaestre

In this period, on the eve of another May Day, the workers’ movement in Contramaestre focused its attention on the promotion of economic development. To this end the process of presentation and discussion of the plan for the economy in the months of February and March played a fundamental role in the strategy of the locality to continue advancing the autonomy of the jurisdiction.

Currently the workers of Contramaestre are looking for alternatives in the face of the complex economic situation that Cuba is going through due to the iron blockade imposed by the U.S. government on the Caribbean island.

The proletarian mass of Contramaestre, made up of more than 19 thousand workers, continues to demonstrate on this May Day, that in spite of any difficulty, Hands and Heart to the Homeland.
