In the presence of the enormous challenges facing the national economy that impact every day on the food chain of the population due to the serious financial limitations, the high prices in the external market and the effect of a criminal blockade, for the government of Contramaestre it is urgent to focus on the fulfillment of the actions demanded by the implementation of Law 148 of 2022, on Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security.
In one of the working sessions of the local government body in which this issue was addressed, several delegates of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power were present, one of them being Ediberto Pérez Barban, for the 149th constituency of the Limoncito area, belonging to the La Torcaza district, one of those that are part of the Turquino Plan in this territory of eastern Cuba.
Contramaestre to resume effective methods
In the opinion of Pérez Barban, Contramaestre needs, in the first place, ”to resume monthly food plenary meetings with the presence of the state structure managers involved in providing food to the people, as well as improving the contracting of the productions and the control of their final destination”.
As the delegate Edilberto Pérez Barban said, it is necessary for Contramaestre to focus on this security issue, which concerns everyone, as Manuel Rodríguez Alfaro, president of the Municipal Assembly of People’s Power, also explained when he stated that ”regardless of the effects of the drought, it is necessary to achieve a greater presence of the agricultural structures in the commercial fairs on weekends and a greater confrontation with abusive and speculative prices”.
