The people in Contramaestre, municipality of Santiago de Cuba, cast their votes for none, one, two or the three candidates for the Cuban Parliament. Humberto Borges stated that he cast his vote for all, since they were nominated in their communities and by the mass organizations.
Why did you vote?
“I come to vote because I have the right to vote according to the Electoral Law 127, which supports the different aspects of elections in Cuba.”
Do you think elections in Cuba are based on democracy?
Of course, true democracy is ruling elections in Cuba. The people in their communities have the chance to nominate candidates for the delegate of the People’ s Power for every constituency.
How does democracy apply to the National elections in particular?
The candidates for the Cuban Parliament came out the proposal of the Provincial People’ s Power Assembly (50 %) , and those proposed by the mass organizations, such as The National Workers’ Union, Committees for the Defense of the Revolution, the National Women Confederation (50%).
The Cuban electoral system works similar in a way to that of Netherlands, in which everyone is given the opportunity elect his or her representative to act in their behalf in the Cuban Parliament.
