Certifying six cooperatives in Contramaestre, in the southeast of Cuba, is one of the objectives of the processing company Rolando Ayud Elías in 2023.
The cooperatives will be the Ceiba, La Torcaza, Celia Sánchez, La Parga, Las Marías, Los Negros and Naranjal Basic Units of Cooperative Production (UBPC).
Contramaestre’s coffee production is on the rise
Currently only the UBPC Tilita and the Edel Mora Credit and Service Cooperative have certified areas of the grain with these conditions and will contribute some 30 tons, although the intention is to reach some 50 tons in these two production bases.
In order to achieve the certification of organic coffee of a plantation it is necessary to previously not use chemical products in the selected area to demonstrate that it is under the effects of a pure ecology.
This implies a rigorous and systematic procedure of controls and records that have as a result the NO use of chemicals and YES the realization of good agro-ecological practices.
