Confronting Racial Discrimination in Cuba

Racial discrimination after 1959 in Cuba is not an institutional phenomenon. However, society debates the racial problem as an emerging phenomenon to be confronted. Examples of equality of rights show how much progress has been made in this field, but it is necessary to banish from our environment the manifestations from prejudiced and racist positions.

In the multicolored Cuban society, blacks, whites and mestizos coincide naturally and harmoniously in all spaces.

Racial discrimination still present

Confronting prejudices and discriminatory behaviors based on skin color that still exist among Cubans is a priority of the state.

The constitution of the republic enshrines the principle that all persons are equal before the law, receive the same protection and treatment from the authorities and enjoy the same rights, freedoms and opportunities, without any discrimination.

It is romantic and idealistic to believe that racist manifestations have been eliminated in Cuba, but this woman from Contramaestre is an example of how much progress has been made in terms of equality.
