At 12 midnight of this December 31, the Cuban flag was raised in the Jesús Rabí Park of this city to welcome the 64th anniversary of the triumph of the Revolution. At the same time, the locals present sang the notes of the national anthem on behalf of all the people, and thus salute another triumphant January 1st.
After 12 months of hard work, facing a world economic crisis, the difficult energy situation, the negative effects of the dangerous Covid-19 pandemic and the dengue epidemic, as well as defending national sovereignty against unprecedented attacks and subversive maneuvers, and resisting the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade of the U.S. government against the island, Contramaestre, like all Cuba, overcame every attack and entered 2023 with the strength to continue recovering and consolidating its progress.
Despite the harshness of the recently ended 2022, positive results were felt in the territory in different spheres of economic, political and social life. Education overcame challenges and demonstrated the strength of the sector, which will serve as an impulse for new tasks related to the educational teaching process this year.
Taking into account that the economy of the municipality relies on the agricultural sector, strategies were adopted for the incorporation of more areas for planting in the productive poles in order to increase food production. In the year that concludes, the protagonism in the results of agriculture was in its producers within which there are more than 3 thousand usufructuaries. This is a territory committed to food production for more than half a million inhabitants here and in the municipality of Santiago de Cuba.
The workers of the food industry of the municipality put to test work dynamics to end the year with positive signs in the fulfillment of the economic mercantile production. The sector was forced to search for alternatives and productive strategies to maintain a level of offerings to the population, which implied greater dedication and commitments in order to counteract the negative effects of the intensified blockade.
The cultural sector in the year 2022 was committed to the arts in various manifestations, by deepening community work. The existence of an institutional system of three houses of culture and a movement of amateur artists of great strength contributed almost 90% of the artistic presentations which, together with other institutions, contributed to the spiritual enrichment of local inhabitants and visitors.
Public health carried out an arduous joint action with several community factors to confront the proliferation of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, the transmitting agent of dengue, a disease that had a strong presence in the territory and that, thanks to the intersectoral work and the support of the population, could be controlled.
In our municipality, so far this year, 34 cases of Covid-19 have been diagnosed, with no positive cases at this time. Thanks to the scientific contribution of the country and the vaccination of the population, it was possible to increase the immunological status of people and today in Cuba there is no resurgence of the disease that severely affects other parts of the world.
Unconditional support to the Cuban Revolution
The territory had an active participation in several political processes such as the referendum for the approval of the Family Code, the nomination of candidates for delegates of the People’s Power and the constitution of the Municipal Assembly of the People’s Power.
It is the purpose for the year 2023 to improve the economic situation of the municipality and with it the satisfaction of many of the needs of the population, which can be answered in local development, in the improvement of the government management system, in food production, in the development of economic actors and productive chains, in the increase of the services offered to the population and their quality.
The government’s efforts have been focused on food production, the development of economic actors and productive chains, the increase in the services offered to the population and their quality, including the family care system, the fight against illegal activities and high prices, the strengthening of work in neighborhoods and communities, the improvement of social programs with an emphasis on education and health care for vulnerable families, attention to demographic dynamics and housing policy, as well as the development of computerization and communications.
The scenario of the year that ended was adverse. … but the Contramaestrians, worthy followers of the legacy of their martyrs, for more than 60 years have maintained the capacity for resistance, intelligence, as well as a firm patriotic conviction and have decided to give continuity to the revolution, to “unite and win”, despite the economic blockade, despite the Covid-19. Convinced that with the effort of all of us we will win.
