Addel Cespedes Santana is a 6th grade student at the Orlando Pantoja Tamayo semi-boarding school in the municipality of Contramaestre in the province of Santiago de Cuba. Attracted by the study of the foreign language and an enormous thirst for knowledge, he participates in knowledge contests organized by the Ministry of Education. Today he is the winner of a gold medal at the provincial level. He continues his tireless preparation as his goal is to advance as fast as he does in his mother tongue.
Addel: This achievement is thanks to the methodologists, the teachers and my family who supported me to move forward. Supporting me is a very important thing in my life, and they can count on me to continue preparing myself.
Addel is a child as simple as any other Cuban child, he plays, laughs, suffers the shortages that hinder his preparation and studies. Even so, his willpower guides his path to success; today, as a student, he is the pride of his parents, from whom he gets their love and support.
Addel’s mother: …I am very proud of him, because in the provincial English contest he won a gold medal, I thank the school, the teachers, my neighbors, some very good teachers who helped me, and his father and I are very proud of him.
Addel’s sacrifice is supported by the commitment and dedication he finds in his school, family and community. This triad is responsible for the success that grows along with 11 other students medalists in the provincial competition in different specialties, all from this educational center, the largest of its kind in the municipality of Contramaestre. Elizabeth Perez Vega, its director, proud of the fruit of the effort, considers the fact a student feat.
Elizabeth Pérez Vega: … I am very proud and grateful with all the results because throughout many years the school has been the winner of many contests, but like these, there were a total of 12 medals between gold and silver in all the prioritized subjects. The collective of workers feels proud, grateful with these achievements, with the support of the families and the sacrifice of the children, of the teachers.
Education in Cuba is solid and adjusts to the needs and limitations imposed by the imperialist blockade. Its pace in the preparation of future professionals is unstoppable because thanks to the efforts of all, students like Addel, the men and women of the Cuban future, are guaranteed.
