Enoilda Meléndez chose Psychopedagogy

Enoilda Meléndez, a Psychopedagogue of reference in Contramaestre

For Enoilda Meléndez Segura, Master in Educational Sciences, working as a teacher since she was a teenager, was the path that traced her life until she chose Psychopedagogy to work as an advisor in the teaching-learning process.

This teacher from Maffo by blood and humble by nature, with more than 15 years in her service record in the educational sector and 8 initial years as a specialist in the consultation of Psychology for the attention of pregnant women, is currently one of the reference Psychopedagogues of the municipality of Contramaestre.

Journalist: Why did you choose to study Psychopedagogy?

Enoilda Meléndez (E.M.): I chose Psychopedagogy because my second child, was born with a diagnosis of ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder), and so I decided to change teaching, for a degree in Psychology to offer him the required treatment.

Q: What was that first experience like when you arrived at the school?

E.M.: Changing from Health to Education is a drastic change, but since I was in the same field, because one graduates as a general psychologist, I started well, I asked for help from the psychologist Hilda Almenares, and then I was inserted in the process of Education.

Q: What have you done to be a referent of Psychopedagogy in Contramaestre?

E.M.: First of all you must love and have passion for working with children, you must love and respect the minors, the infants, the educators and the family, in order to be able to develop a quality work.

Q: You have a meritorious record of service verticalized towards psycho-pedagogical scientific research. What do these contributions translate into?

E.M.: I started working in 2008, and in 2009 I began my degree as a psychologist, graduating in 2010. In 2012, I began to participate in all the events that were organized; firstly in a Forum event that classified in Pedagogy, the same was about stress in working women, then I ventured into inclusive education that was beginning to be introduced in Contramaestre, presenting a work aimed at children with educational difficulties to learn.

That work allowed me to participate in the international event of Pedagogy 2015, with contributions of impact to raise the quality in the learning process in the educational system. In 2022 once again I participated in Pedagogy at the international level with the topic of educational guidance in students diagnosed with ADHD, work that allowed a relevant recognition by the Minister of Education at that time, Ena Elsa Cobiella, as the best teacher researcher that was in Contramaestre. In 2022 I had the opportunity to participate in the provincial scientific event “Ofelia Reyes in memoriam”. All this gave me the guidelines to graduate as Master in Educational Sciences, with the theme “Educational Guidance” with a pedagogical impact, being among the eight best records of that third graduation at provincial level.

I have also contributed with publications on Didactics of science in the development of mathematical talent; work with learners with attention to risk and dissemination of children with behavioral disorders and attention to infants with ADHD.

Q: Do you consider that you have reached pedagogical maturity?

E.M.: There are always dreams and goals to achieve. Right now in the Education System there is a project of attention to vulnerable infants, adolescents and young people that has allowed me to present the paper “Preventive work with students in risk situations and vulnerable cases”, in the municipal event Pedagogy 2025, held recently. This project motivated me because of the marked attention that children and complex communities should have, the vulnerable cases that exist, because these minors are tabulated as behavioral disorders and it is not so, because if you analyze each situation humanly, you realize that there are other risk tendencies that make them vulnerable.
