The six-month period that just ended can be described as very tense for the economy of Contramaestre. Although it experienced progress compared to the previous period, it still hasn’t achieved the expected results of the local development strategy designed for this period.

The economic and productive dynamics during the first six months of the year in the municipality of Contramaestre have been characterized by modest progress in financial balance.

The implementation of the policies of the territorial economic and social development strategy was slowed by limitations on key resources such as fuels, lubricants, and electricity.

However, the initiatives introduced led to an increase in net sales while successfully containing the increase in the annual budget deficit, which is viewed by specialists as a favorable result.

A positive element is the 68.4% fulfillment rate for physical production, which is 25.1% higher than the same period last year and 33.3% higher than at the end of 2024.

In this context, the number of loss-making companies has decreased, with 100.8% fulfillment of commercial circulation.

The emergence of a new joint venture, BioCubaCafé, has breathed new life into the Contramaestre economy. The export of local products such as aseptic mango pulp, aseptic guava puree, and other purees, as well as charcoal, is also positive.

The Tropical Contramaestre S.A. Joint Venture has fulfilled its export plan at 112% in physical terms and 127% in terms of value.

The first six months of the year are coming to an end, and despite the efforts of workers at the five agricultural enterprises, which collectively completed 101 percent of the spring planting campaign, the impact of the drought has taken its toll on the Contramaestre municipality’s production plans, especially in areas such as corn.

Without reaching the desired pace, work is being done to recover the Baire viticulture plan, and the area for rice production is expanding thanks to a thriving extensionist movement.

In the area, seed production, especially of plantain, is increasing with the implementation of a thermal housing project for accelerated production, and coffee harvesting has exceeded 400%.

The municipality has five agricultural enterprises and 58 productive structures, which need to continue perfecting planting planning using animal traction, as well as monitoring the destination of the crops and their marketing.

Without a recovery in the agricultural sector, Contramaestre will be unable to develop and grow alongside other sectors, and this is a key element of the government’s work in the coming months and years.

In the first six months of 2025, the Santiago municipality of Contramaestre developed actions to prevent and address criminal activity, antisocial behavior, corruption, illegalities, social indiscipline, and other harmful phenomena. This is a front on which control actions must be better coordinated between community factors and political and grassroots organizations.

Social work has focused on addressing the four settlements with multiple vulnerabilities, as well as prioritizing people in vulnerable conditions.

Amid very adverse conditions, the local administrative leadership must strive to increasingly achieve equitable access to services and resources for people, promoting their inclusion and social well-being.

With the first half of the year over, Contramaestre is experiencing improved work organization across the six sports teams, increasing the number of athletes participating in national and international competitions, as well as in high-performance centers.

Education closes the first half of the year with the best-ever results in pre-university education, with a 99.6% pass rate. Contramaestre has been represented with outstanding results in scientific events and competitions at all levels.

The municipality’s 113 Family Doctor’s Offices are staffed by doctors and nurses.

The energy matrix change is one of the areas where the most work has been done in the area, with the installation of five photovoltaic energy sites to pump water to five communities, one of them the town of Baire.

But without a doubt, the construction, installation, and commissioning of the Las Guásimas solar farm, with a generating capacity of 21.8 megawatts, is the most significant project in this sector.

An example of what can be achieved when it comes to advancing to higher stages, in the effort to achieve food sovereignty and sustainable development.
