Children’s organization, a place for hope

Children organization, a place of hope.

Childhood and adolescence are decisive stages in the formation of individuals. At these ages, it is important to feel that we belong somewhere, to some work. In Cuba, children and adolescents from five to 15 years of age are part of the José Martí Pioneers Organization (OPJM), a group that welcomes them in a genuine and disinterested way.

Born on April 4, 1961, as the Organization of Pioneers of Cuba, years later, in the middle of the third congress of the Union of Young Communists, UJC, its name was changed to what we know today as OPJM.

Among its objectives are to instill in the youngest children the love for study and work, the teaching of the nation’s history and above all, the approach to the Revolution and its emblematic figures.

The OPJM involves its members in academic, recreational and social activities, such as volunteer work in the schools themselves. It is a space for forging values and ethical principles that give rise to future good men and women.

At the same time, this organization allows the new generations to develop their socialization skills and offers them a place, a work to belong to. Working with this age group is a great challenge, but it is enormously satisfying if it is done with love.
