The sports movement in Contramaestre, a municipality in the province of Santiago de Cuba, led by INDER, today performed in a simple way and in accordance with the limitations and protection imposed by the Covid-19, the Day of Physical Culture and Sport with the implementation of collective participation activities for the enjoyment of those present.
On this occasion, sports activists in the community, outstanding physical education teachers, and sports centers with important impacts in the community received recognition.
November 19 is the date instituted in Cuba to celebrate every year the Day of Physical Culture and Sport, and it was chosen because on that day in 1961 the first Plenary of Voluntary Sports Correspondents was held, a movement that played a leading role in the emergence and subsequent development of revolutionary sport in the largest of the Antilles. Fidel Castro delivered the closing speech expecting all of us to take sports as far as possible.
