President of Cuba on a working visit to companies and centers in Matanzas

Havana, November 20 (PL) – President Miguel Díaz-Canel heads a government visit today to the western province of Matanzas, together with high officials.

He is accompanied by Vice President Salvador Mesa and Prime Minister Manuel Marrero, as well as members of the Council of Ministers.

This is the eighth such visit led by the Cuban leader in various territories of the island this year.

In the current sanitary conditions, such visits are carried out in strict compliance with the epidemiological measures, the site of the Presidency points out.

The purpose is to evaluate progress and difficulties, to enter into direct contact with managers and the population in order to set guidelines for development and the satisfaction of needs.

In the batey of the Central Jesús Rabí in Calimete, the President explains to the inhabitants the objectives of this government visit that travels through several municipalities.

At the Central Jesús Rabí sugar mill in Matanzas, he received an explanation of the strategy for the 2020-2021 sugar harvest in the province.

In the emblematic Indian Hatuey Experimental Station, in Perico, the president recognized the work that is carried out in the institution for the promotion of science and technological innovation. This is a center founded by Fidel Castro.

Before the impact of the Covid-19 in the largest of the Antilles, the head of state and his government team visited the provinces of Las Tunas, Sancti Spíritus, Artemisa, Cienfuegos and Mayabeque.

This work system was interrupted in March and was resumed in October in the eastern province of Santiago de Cuba and later in the central Villa Clara.

This is the third government visit to Matanzas since July 2018. It now takes place in the midst of the confrontation with Covid-19 and the implementation of the economic and social strategy adopted to revitalize the country.

Connecting national programs with the implementation of local development policies, food production, productive linkages and housing construction are among the priorities of the aforementioned strategy.

Also the development of tourism, as well as the strengthening and production of exportable items to replace imports.

Matanzas lodges the resort of Varadero, main tourist pole of the country, that reopens its doors to the international tourism.
