Havana-. Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, president of Cuba, described U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo as ignorant of history through his Twitter account.
Pompeo, the message specifies, ignorant of the history and principles of the Cuban Revolution, proposes to negotiate a reconciliation in exchange for abandoning the course chosen by our people, he suggests betraying friends and denying 60 years of dignity. No, imperialist gentlemen, we don’t understand each other!
The Cuban leader added: Pompeo does not understand that “Throughout the whole island, we are less than those who daily wander around a great city. We are less: a handful of men on a ribbon of land washed by the sea. But, we have built a forgotten joy”.
Relations between Cuba and the United States have experienced a marked deterioration since the assumption of power by President Donald Trump, who among other measures has decreed the activation of Title III of the Helms-Burton Act, has withdrawn personnel from the embassy in Havana and prohibited cruise ships from docking in Cuban ports, among other sanctions.
