New measures against Covid-19 enforced in Contramaestre

In response to the increase in the number of positive cases of Covid-19 in the municipality of Contramaestre in Santiago de Cuba, new measures have been implemented to allow a more effective fight against the pandemic in the midst of the complex situation that this territory is undergoing.

Contramaestre, some 800 kilometers from Havana, has reported 28 positive cases of Sars-Cov2 in the last 15 days (January 16 – 31), for a rate of 26.3 per 100,000 inhabitants. The most affected health area is America 1 with 19 cases in the last 15 days. The territory has 5 active foci, 3 of which are events.

Expanding the range of preventive actions and confronting the pandemic is a priority in this territory in eastern Cuba, which is experiencing the worst epidemiological moment since March 2020.

Bladimir Díaz Mora, Intendant in the municipality of Contramaestre, points out that by decision of the Provincial Defense Council, 42 measures have been put into practice for days to reinforce the protocol to confront the pandemic; and explains that to reduce waiting lines, alternatives are being sought for the sale of basic necessities.

Covid-19 groups

“In this sense, we have organized the sale of food and other basic necessities through the popular councils and their local stores, with the participation of the community organizations”, he specifies that in order to guarantee food and other needs of the population in quarantine zones, the Covid-19 groups have been created.

He also details that these groups are in charge of organizing and executing the distribution of meat, food and vegetables in the stratified areas. Diaz Mora also states that the municipality has 250 capacities to hospitalize patients for Covid-19. “Ramón Ricardo Méndez Cabezón polytechnic has 100 capacities,” José Antonio labrador Díaz” school has 100 and the scout camp has 50 capacities for isolation.”

With classes suspended, the Education sector has arranged for the creation of a brigade of volunteers to work in the isolation centers and in those activities to confront the pandemic where necessary. Children should not travel on public roads, they should only go out as much as necessary and pedestrian and vehicular traffic is restricted after six o’clock in the evening. Frequent hand washing, the wearing of masks, and social distancing are recommended.

In Contramaestre, priority is given to sending food to the city of Santiago de Cuba and supplying its state markets. In the current stage, it is necessary to increase discipline to stop the resurgence of Covid-19.

The Mayor of this municipality, Bladimir Díaz Mora, calls for discipline and sanity at a time when the battle against the new coronavirus is decisive.
