Cuba reports 1186 Covid-19 cases

At the close of yesterday, May 12, 24,602 Covid-19 patients were admitted, 3,807 were suspected, 14,561 were under surveillance and 6,234 were confirmed active, according to Franacico Durán, Director of Epidemiology at the Ministry of Public Health in his usual televised press conference.

For Covid-19, 22,934 samples were studied, resulting in 1,186 positive samples. The country accumulates 3 million 923,413 samples taken and 120,561 were positive.

Of the total number of cases (1186): 1102 were contacts of confirmed cases; 48 (4.0%) with source of infection abroad; 36 (3.0%) with no source of infection specified. Of the 1,186 diagnosed cases, 614 were female and 572 were male.

Of the 1,186 positive cases, 40.4% (479) were asymptomatic, making a total of 59,567, representing 49.4% of those confirmed to date.

The 1186 diagnosed cases belong to the following age groups: under 20 years of age (173), 20 to 39 years of age (385), 40 to 59 years of age (414) and over 60 years of age (214).

Distribution in the province of Santiago de Cuba: 49 Covid-19 cases.

Contramaestre: 7 (5 confirmed and 2 imported case contacts).
II Front: 1 (confirmed case contact).
Palma Soriano: 7 (confirmed case contacts).
Santiago de Cuba: 32 (27 confirmed case contacts, 2 imported and 3 without source of infection).
Songo La Maya: 2 (no source of infection identified).

Of the 120,561 patients diagnosed with the disease, 6,234 remain hospitalized, 6,096 of them with stable clinical evolution. There were 778 deaths (10 during the day), two evacuated, 54 returned to their countries, 1,032 discharged during the day, and 113,493 patients recovered (94.2%). There are 138 confirmed patients in intensive care, including 47 critical and 91 serious patients.
