Contramaestre reports 4 Covid-19 cases, Cuba 1040

Contramaestre municipality in Santiago de Cuba province, reports 4 new Covid-19 cases, while Cuba counts 1040, according to Dr. Francisco Durán, director of the Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health in his daily TV conference.

At the end of yesterday, April 9, a total of 24,703 patients had been admitted, 3,616 were suspected, 15,982 were under surveillance and 5,105 were confirmed active.

The 1040 confirmed cases resulted from the study of 21,332 samples. The country accumulates 3 million 191,858 samples taken and 85,572 positive.

Of the total number of cases (1040): 998 were contacts of confirmed cases, 11 with source of infection abroad; 31 with no source of infection specified.

Of the 1040 diagnosed cases, 515 were female and 525 were male.

Of the 1040 positive cases, 43.1% (448) were asymptomatic, and 44,069 cases were asymptomatic, representing 51.5% of those confirmed to date.

The 1040 diagnosed cases belong to the following age groups: under 20 years of age (174), 20 to 39 years of age (322), 40 to 59 years of age (383) and over 60 years of age (161).

Distribution in the province of Santiago de Cuba: 36 Covid-19 cases.

Contramaestre: 4 (3 contacts of confirmed cases and 1 imported).
Guamá: 1 (no source of infection specified).
Palma Soriano: 6 (5 confirmed case contacts and 1 without source of infection).
San Luis: 1 (confirmed case contact).
Santiago de Cuba: 21 (15 confirmed case contacts, 2 imported and 4 without source of infection).
Songo La Maya: 3 (contacts of confirmed cases).

Of the 85,572 patients diagnosed with the disease, 5,105 remain hospitalized, of whom 5,048 have a stable clinical course. There were 453 deaths (five during the day), two evacuated, 54 returned to their countries, 1,042 discharged during the day, and 79,958 patients recovered (93.4%). There are 57 confirmed patients in intensive care, 32 of them critical and 25 serious.

As of April 9, 190 countries and 29 territories have reported cases of COVID-19, with 135 million 187,914 confirmed cases (+962,595), 23 million 537,583 active cases and 2 million 925,832 deaths (+17,768) for a case fatality rate of 2.16 (-0.01).

In the Americas region, 58 million 795,249 confirmed cases (+ 350,796) were reported, 43.49% of the total number of cases reported in the world, with 9 million 251,253 active cases and 1 million 419,356 deaths (+ 13,471) for a case fatality rate of 2.41.
