Contramaestre, a municipality in Santiago de Cuba province, reported on Monday a new case of Covid-19, according to information presented on TV by the national director of Epidemiology of the Cuban Ministry of Public Health, Dr. Francisco Durán.
In his national report, the specialist reported four deaths and 838 positive samples for Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, for an accumulated 45,361 diagnoses since the beginning of the disease in the nation.
Dr. Durán informed that at the end of yesterday, 19,873 patients had been admitted, of which 2,870 were suspected, 12,035 were under epidemiological surveillance and 4,968 were confirmed.
Durán explained that the country had taken 18,060 samples the day before for a total of 2,281,712 samples analyzed.
The epidemiologist announced that, of the 838 patients, 790 have a source of infection in previously confirmed cases, 23 have a source of infection abroad (9 foreigners) and in 25 persons the source of infection is unknown. There were 815 autochthonous patients, 447 of whom were asymptomatic.
Of the total number of confirmed cases, 417 were male and 421 female. In terms of age groups, 108 patients were diagnosed under 19 years of age, and 723 pediatric patients were hospitalized. In the 19 to 39 years age group, 288 cases were confirmed; between 40 and 59 years of age, 279 cases and 158 people over 60 years of age.
Of the 45,361 patients diagnosed with the disease since its onset, 4,968 have been confirmed as hospitalized, 4,907 of them with stable clinical evolution. There are 300 deaths reported (4 on the last day) for a case fatality rate of 0.66. Two evacuees, 54 returnees and 40,377 patients recovered (912 discharged during the day). Twenty-seven patients are reported in critical condition and 34 patients in serious condition.

As of February 21, 190 countries have reported cases of COVID-19, 111 million 747,462 people have been infected and 2 million 474,080 people have died, for a case fatality rate of 2.21.
In the Americas region, 50 million 263,114 confirmed cases and 1 million 189,883 deaths have been reported, for a case fatality rate of 2.36.
