Cuba reports five deaths and 777 new Covid-19 cases

The national director of Epidemiology, Dr. Francisco Durán, reported on Friday five deaths and 777 new cases of  Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, for an accumulated 54,085 infections and 341 deaths in the nation since March 2020.

During a televised briefing, the specialist informed that by midnight, 21552 patients had been admitted, of which 3,816 were suspected,  13,185 were under epidemiological surveillance and 4,551 were confirmed.

The 22 molecular biology laboratories processed 18036 samples to diagnose the 777 new infections with the disease on the island.

Of the total number of cases (777): 742 were contacts of confirmed cases; 7 with source of infection abroad; on day 28 with no source of infection specified. Of the 777 diagnosed cases, 392 were female and 385 were male.

Of the 777 positive cases, 46.2% (359) were asymptomatic, making a total of 28,920, representing 53.4% of those confirmed to date.

The 777 diagnosed cases belong to the following age groups: under 20 years of age: 112; 20 to 39 years of age: 250; 40 to 59 years of age: 292 and over 60: 123 cases.

Of the 54 thousand 85 patients diagnosed with the disease, 4 thousand 551 remain hospitalized, of whom 4 thousand 490 have a stable clinical course. There are 341 deaths (five during the day), two evacuated, 54 returned to their countries, 796 discharged during the day, and 49,137 patients have recovered (90.7%). There are 61 confirmed, 30 critical and 31 seriously ill patients in intensive care.

As of March 4, 190 countries and 29 territories have reported cases of COVID-19, with 115 million 978 thousand 601 confirmed cases (+ 549 thousand 173), 21 million 701 thousand 556 active cases and 2 million 575 thousand 196 deaths (+ 12 thousand 159) for a case fatality of 2.22.

In the Americas region, 52 million 13,319 confirmed cases (+ 211,383) were reported, 44.84% of the total number of cases reported in the world, with 10 million 671,533 active cases and 1 million 241,469 deaths (+ 6,221), for a case fatality rate of 2.38.
