Cuba reported 699 new Covid-19 cases

Cuba reported on Wednesday 699 new cases of Covid-19 and four deaths in the last 24 hours, which brings the total number of deaths caused by the disease to 308 and 46,896 diagnosed.

At the usual press conference, the director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health, Francisco Durán, pointed out that to date, 19,328 patients have been admitted, of which 2,824 are suspected, 11,875 are under surveillance and 4,629 are active with the disease.

For the detection of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, the pathogen that causes Covid-19, 18,792 samples were studied the day before and 2,319,222 real-time PCRs have been analyzed in Cuba.

The doctor commented that 685 of the detected cases are autochthonous and 14 imported; while 666, 95.2 % were contacts of confirmed cases, for an accumulated total of 41,969 (89.4 %).

Meanwhile, 14 persons (2.0 %) had a source of infection abroad for a cumulative of 4,670 (9.95 %) cases with this source of infection throughout the epidemic and in 19 patients (2.7 %) the source of infection is still not specified, accumulating 257 cases (0.5 %).

Durán stated that yesterday 14 (2.0%) patients were linked to international travelers, accumulating 10,499 (26.2%) and 322 (46.1%) were asymptomatic at the time of diagnosis, thus accumulating 24,466 (52.2%) asymptomatic cases.

There were 389 females and 310 males.

According to age groups: under 20 years: 83; 20 to 39 years: 208; 40 to 59 years: 259 and over 60: 149 cases.

Of the 46 896 patients diagnosed with the disease, 4 629 remain hospitalized, of whom 4 573 have a stable clinical course. There were 308 deaths (four during the day), two evacuated, 54 returned to their countries, 924 discharged during the day, and 41 903 patients recovered (89.3%).

A total of 56 confirmed patients are being treated in intensive care, including 32 critically ill and 24 seriously ill.
