Cuba reports 201 new Covid-19 cases

Francisco Durán, the National Director of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health, reported that the island’s laboratories diagnosed over the last 24 hours 201 new cases of SARS-CoV-2 virus, which causes Covid-19.

In a televised press conference, Durán said that 10 thousand 136 tests were carried out. At present, a total of 1,746 persons are sick with Covid-19 in Cuba.

He reported the death of a 72-year-old patient, and the number of deaths in the country amounted to 148.

With the new cases reported, Cuba surpassed 13 thousand positive patients since the beginning of the epidemic in March last year.

Covid-19 contacts

Of the total number of Covid-19 cases (201): a total of 123 were contacts of confirmed cases, 65 with a source of infection abroad and 13 without a precise source of infection. The 201 diagnosed cases included 102 females and 99 males.

The provinces with most cases were Havana with 75, Matanzas with 30, and Villa Clara with 23.

The National Director of Epidemiology said that there are already 1,109 confirmed cases and two deaths in January.

“This behavior in the first five days of the year represents a high number. If this continues, we should end the month with a higher number than December, which was already the highest in the country’s entire pandemic.

Of the 13,165 patients diagnosed with the disease, 1,746 (13.3%) remain hospitalized, 1,726 (98.8%) with stable clinical evolution. There are reported 148 deaths (one in the day), two evacuated, 21 returned to their countries, 212 discharges in the day, 11 thousand 248 patients recovered (85.4%). Twenty confirmed patients are attended in intensive care, 7 of them critical and 13 serious.
