At 3:30 p.m. – dawn of this Sunday, June 21, the tranquility of the town of Baire, municipality of Contramaestre in Oriente de Cuba, was shaken by an unusual event due to the arrival of the two heroes coming from Crema, Italy.
A load of altruism, full hearts and heroism made its way through the crowd of inhabitants and posed its humanity in the Historical Park of Baire, where 125 years ago the Cry of Independence of the 24th of February took place.
Eight were the courageous doctors and paramedics of the province of Santiago de Cuba, who returned healthy to the homeland where they were born, and in correspondence with their bravery they were received by the provincial and municipal authorities of Public Health, the Municipal Defense Council and their fellow workers.
Among them, Osmar Andino Mojena and Ibrahín La Rosa Aguilera, two counter-masters who are members of the Henry Reeve Contingent to attend to disaster victims.
Only a hug in the arms of the family that was waiting for them, and the recognition for the task accomplished in Crema, Lombardia, arrived.
The words of Dr. Jorge Luis Fraga Novella, President of the Municipal Assembly of the People’s Power in Contramaestre on behalf of the Provincial Defense Council of Santiago de Cuba, enriched the tranquility of the night in Baire.
It was already dawn during Father’s Day at around 5 in the morning.
After half an hour of congratulations, a new motivation mobilized the presidents. In the city’s neighbourhoods, the people were waiting for the health ambassadors in Crema. Andino, in Baire. Ibrahim in Lumumba district in the municipality of Contramaestre. There, the health protocols were broken. Cubans fused tears and hugs, as if to show that this lineage of humans can do more than any pandemic.
