Crime has no room in Contramaestre

 The Municipal Defense Council in Contramaestre, with the support of the police corps and the people of this territory in eastern Cuba, continues to keep a high guard against criminal demonstrations that threaten the national economy and the interests of the population.

In an exceptional situation, marked by the consequences of a pandemic caused by the COVID-19, forces of the National Revolutionary Police (PNR) of Contramaestre thwarted a robbery with force against hoppers loaded with sugar in the area of La Salada, near the town of Baire District.

As a result of a police operation, during the night of April 26, a group of criminals were caught in franganti. They broke the seals of the hoppers and began to extract sugar in bulk, coming from Dos Ríos Sugar Mill of Palma Soriano , bound for the port of Guayabal in the eastern province of Las Tunas province.

On the site of the crime, sugar sacks were seized, about 40 others that had not been filled and other devices used for the extraction of sugar from the hoppers.

At the time this information was closed, the police continued to investigate the causes and conditions of the crime, as well as the scope of such outrageous action, which significantly affects a sector of the national economy.

Once again, the action of the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Cuba (MININT), with the support of the people, manages to thwart criminal attempts to profit from the products generated by groups of sacrificed workers such as those in the sugar sector.

In this way, the country’s efforts to place products in foreign markets that contribute to the emission of foreign currency that the country needs to fight the the COVID-19 are positively directed.

The details of the police operation, in the voice of MININT Captain Dennis Rosales Alvarez, First Instructor of the PNR in the municipality of Contramaestre, province of Santiago de Cuba.

“This crime was committed with the direct participation of the train crew, made up of seven members of the crew and two security men, who were supposed to guard 14 sugar hoppers. And all those involved in this criminal act are now at the disposal of the courts…”
