USA ignores the international community rejection on blocking Cuba

Contramaestre, Nov. 08.- The United States again ignored the calls of the international community to put an end to the economic, commercial and financial blockade that that country  imposes against Cuba officially since 1962.

The US government keeps defending its  position, as the US ambassador to the UN, Kelly Craft, expressed in  her speech, the official focused on the non-recognition of the harmful effects that the economic, commercial and financial restrictions of her government have on the Cuban people, although she recognized that for sure for the twenty-eighth time the member countries of the United Nations will pronounce themselves in favor of the Cuban resolution.

She ignored the fact that the accumulated damages during almost six decades of application of this policy reach the figure of 138,843.4 million dollars. Taking into account the depreciation of the dollar against the value of gold in the international market, the blockade has caused quantifiable damages of more than 922,630 million dollars, a value that represents a decrease of 1.2 percent over the previous period, due to the decrease in the price of gold by 1.6 percent. That money could have been used to improve the quality of life of the Cuban people.

Aberrant sinism, that of the U.S. government, in stating through Mrs. Craft that the United States “decides with whom it trades” and called the audience to wonder if it is right to support the Cuban proposal taking into account the constant accusations of the U.S. administration about how human rights are supposedly “violated” on the island.

Of course, each country decides with whom it establishes commercial relations, and that should be the case for institutions, shipping lines, banks, etc. However, in many cases they are sanctioned for participating in Cuban transactions or trading.

On the other hand, the US Treasure Department forbids “emblematic citizens of liberty” to travel to Cuba; finally, it does not allow cultural exchange with Cuba, Russia, and North Korea.

So what freedom is Mrs. Craft talking about? Freedom of expression? And what happened to Angela Davis? She can still testify. What happened to Martin Luther King? What happened to Malcolm X? To give some examples.
