Santo Domingo, Oct 1 (Prensa Latina) The Maximo Gomez Association of Cubans living in the Dominican Republic today condemned the U.S. campaign to discredit the island’s medical cooperation, and the pressures and blackmail against the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO).
In a statement, the Association stressed that this vile strategy is part of the intensification of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, whose people have never hesitated to share their scarce resources with those in need around the world.
The group highlighted the statement made the day before by the Cuban Foreign Ministry, in which it was denounced that the US government, under threat of not disbursing its financial contribution to the PAHO budget, forced that organization to accept a review of its role in the More Medical Program in Brazil.
Likewise, the Cubans weighed up what the island had expressed about the alleged concerns of Washington about the cooperation of the Caribbean nation and this specific program, which were qualified as neither legitimate nor pertinent to be discussed at PAHO.
On the other hand, they added to what their country had stated regarding the fact that the international community favors and applauds the results of a Program that made it possible for Cuban doctors in Brazil to attend more than 113 million patients in 3,600 municipalities from August 2013 to November 2018.
They also mentioned the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that the United States commits a crime when it intends to deprive millions of people of that inalienable right that is health, especially in these times of a pandemic that is still uncontrollable.
Finally, the communiqué rejected all the pressures against the cooperation programs that Cuba carries out with the states of our region.
