Rome, Oct 8 (Prensa Latina) Associations of Cubans living in Italy ratified here today their support to the island and its Revolution with a public demonstration held in a central area of this capital.

Dozens of Cubans and Italians gathered since early morning in Santa Prisca Square to express their solidarity with the people of the Caribbean nation and to demand the lifting of the economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the United States for almost six decades.

Posters, slogans, songs and multiple expressions of solidarity with Cuba characterized the demonstration presided over by a banner with the phrase “Down with the blockade” and the national flag with its red triangle and the sole star displayed at various corners of the square.

In the demonstration held on the occasion of the 53rd anniversary of the fall of Commander Ernesto Che Guevara in Bolivia, the presence of members of the associations belonging to the National Coordination of Cubans Living in Italy (Conaci) stood out.

Conaci brings together some twenty associations organized throughout Italy where they carry out activities to promote the culture and patriotic traditions of Cuba, with whose institutions they maintain a fluid and permanent relationship.

One of the Italian friends of Cuba participating in the demonstration was the former senator for the Party of Communist Refoundation, Russo Spenna.

In a dialogue with Prensa Latina, Spenna highlighted the growing flow of sympathy and affection existing in Italy towards Cuba, feelings accentuated in recent months by the work developed by doctors and nurses of the ‘Henry Reeve’ contingent in the confrontation to the Covid-19 in the regions of Lombardy and Piedmont.

In that sense, he reiterated that the fight against the blockade, rejected every year by the international community at the United Nations General Assembly, will continue to be the central issue of the mobilization in favor of Cuba and its Revolution.
