Cubans in Ethiopia recalled the Independence Cry of February 24,1895

Addis Ababa, February 24, 2020. The Cuban flags of the Solitary Star and that of Cuba in Arms presided over the commemoration held at the Embassy of Cuba in Ethiopia, of the 125 anniversary of the resuming of the independence war against colonialism in 1895.

The Cuban Ambassador to Ethiopia Vilma Thomas delivered some remarks where she highlighted the importance of the uprising initiated on February 24, 1895 which set an example for the present and future of Cuba.  The diplomat also referred to the first anniversary of the massive vote for the new Constitution of Cuba, which inherited the values acquired by the Cubans during of the arm struggle two centuries ago.

The Cuban health workers serving in Addis Ababa, as well as members of the Solidarity Associations in Ethiopia were in attendance to witness the screening of the Cuban film “The eye of the canary” directed by Fernando Pérez.
