Rome, July 13 (Prensa Latina) The Presidency of the Regional Council of Piedmont conferred today a decoration for civil merits to the 38 Cuban health cooperators who faced the Covid-19 together with Italian colleagues in the city of Turin for three months.
The grounds for the recognition published by the regional authority highlight ‘the role played during the 2020 health emergency, the dedication and high professionalism lavished daily on the care of Piedmontese patients at Covid-19’.
Speaking at the award ceremony held at the OGR cultural and convention complex, where the temporary hospital where the Cuban health professionals worked is still in operation, the president of the regional council, Stefano Allasi, expressed the gratitude of the authorities and the Piedmontese people for the work done.
The vice president of the regional government, Fabio Carosso, made a similar statement, while the Cuban ambassador in Italy, José Carlos Rodríguez, thanked this and other numerous expressions of gratitude and affection received by the Cuban doctors and nurses since their arrival in Italy last April 13.
The diplomat also underlined the role played by the Italian health professionals, with whom his Cuban colleagues developed an excellent professional and human relationship.
The ambassador also pointed out that the pandemic showed the fragility of the world facing very serious and deep challenges and added that ‘if this situation has taught us anything, it is the need to join forces beyond diversity and borders’, to foster solidarity as human beings.
Also accompanying the Cuban collaborators in the ceremony were the Minister Counselor of the diplomatic mission, Jorge Luis Alfonzo, and the head of the consular section in Rome, Felix Lorenzo.
The Health Advisor of the Piedmont Region, Luigi Icardi, and the International Cooperation Advisor, Maurizio Marrone, were also present at the activity, as well as representatives of the Association for Cultural and Economic Exchange with Cuba, which made a valuable contribution to the development of this experience of cooperation.
