Havana, 3 Sep (RHC) Dr. Consuelo Macias, director of the National Institute of Hematology and Immunology of Cuba, will integrate the Group of the Partnership of Academies of Sciences of the world (IAP) to collaborate in the writing of a document on regenerative medicine.
Macías has specialized in the use of stem cells and autoimmune plasma for confronting Covid-19.
The international team will be led by the president of IAP, Dr. Volker ter Meulen, director of the Institute of Virology and Immunobiology at the University of Wuerzburg, Germany.
The meetings will be organized virtually and the final result will be announced later this year.
Each specialist will contribute their scientific knowledge, expertise, ethical assessments on the advances that regenerative medicine is having, which covers gene therapies, use of stem cells and tissue engineering.
Last July, a team of Cuban academics was also chosen to participate in the International Panel of Experts as an advisory group for the confrontation with Covid-19 in the world.
The Cuban Academy of Sciences is a member, since its foundation in 1993, of the Partnership of Academies of Sciences of the World.
