Havana, Oct 12 (RHC) The president of the association Cubanismo.be, Isabelle Vanbrabant, stated this Monday in Brussels that Belgian citizens plan to promote actions in favor of the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to the Cuban medical brigades ‘Henry Reeve’ in the coming months.
The activist declared to the Prensa Latina agency that among the initiatives is the promotion in Belgium of official nominations for the award, considered a way to recognize the solidarity shown by health professionals from the island who traveled to dozens of countries to help in the fight against the Covid-19.
“The intention is to maintain this stage of the campaign until the end of January, when the deadline for receiving nominations for the 2021 Nobel Prize expires,” she said.
Vanbrabant highlighted recent activities of Cubanismo.be to support the petition made from different parts of the world, such as the launching last Friday of a new call to grant the Nobel Peace Prize to the ‘Henry Reeve’ brigades, created in 2005 to assist the peoples hit by natural disasters and epidemics.
She explained that they released a video of the well-known actor and director of series and programs of the Flemish television Jonas Geirnaert, in which the mayor of the Italian town of Crema, Stefania Bonaldi, also intervenes.
“Geirnaert highlights the fact that a small country like Cuba sends health professionals selflessly to other countries, in a proof of its greatness in terms of solidarity,” he said.
For her part, Bonaldi appreciates the help given by the ‘Henry Reeve’ brigades in Italy, at a time when the Covid-19 was hitting the northern municipality she manages with force.
Vanbrabant recalled that in May, Cubanismo.be activated an online call to promote the delivery of the Nobel Peace Prize to Cuban health professionals, with more than 1,300 signatures collected so far.
