Cuba reports 31 new cases of Covid-19

At yesterday’s close, August 3, 463 patients were admitted to hospitals for clinical epidemiological surveillance. Another 6,467 are being monitored in the Primary Health Care.

For COVID-19, 3,389 samples were studied, resulting in 31 positive samples. The country accumulated 277,863 samples and 2,701 positive samples (0.97%). Therefore, at yesterday’s close, 31 new cases were confirmed, with a cumulative total of 2,701 in the country.

The 31 diagnosed cases are Cuban, 17 were contacts of confirmed cases, in four the source of infection is not defined and 10 have a source of infection abroad.

Of the 31 confirmed cases, 19 are male and 12 are female. A total of 67.7% (21) were asymptomatic.
Of the 2,701 patients diagnosed with the disease, 229 (8.4%) remain confirmed, 228 (99.5%) with stable clinical course. There were 88 deaths (one a day), two evacuations and nine discharges a day (a total of 2,382 patients recovered). One patient was reported to be in serious condition.

Cuban citizen, 67 years old, from the municipality of Camagüey, province of the same name. History of Arterial Hypertension, Diabetes Mellitus and Obesity. She was admitted with a cough and light polypnea, a pathological chest x-ray was performed and she was admitted to the Intermediate Care Unit. During her stay, clinical, radiological and gastric deterioration was noted, with distal cyanosis and desaturation, and she was transferred to Intensive Care. She is afebrile, clinical and radiological improvement, was extubated 24 hours ago without complications, in spontaneous ventilation. Hemodynamically stable. Chest X-ray with radiological improvement, inflammatory lesions on the left base. Reported in serious condition.

Cuban citizen, 84 years old, resident in Diez de Octubre municipality, Havana province, died. Patient who was admitted for presenting fever. He presented worsening of dyspnea, consciousness disorders, arterial hypotension and anuria and was transferred to intensive care where he was intubated and ventilated in a controlled modality. Complementary examinations showed leukocytosis and high glycemia, and inflammatory lesions appeared in both lung fields in the Rx. He made cardiorespiratory arrest, cardiopulmonary resuscitation manoeuvres were performed but they were not effective. A necropsy was performed to confirm the diagnosis of COVID-19. We deeply regret what happened and convey our condolences to family and friends.

As of August 3, 185 countries had reported cases of COVID-19, with 18 million 056,310 confirmed cases (+214,641) and 689,219 deaths (+3,938), for a lethality of 3.81 (-0.03).

The Americas region reports 9,762,672 confirmed cases (+111,200), 54.06 of the total number of reported cases worldwide, with 365,688 deaths (+2,089) for a case fatality of 3.74 (-0.01).
