The Ministry of Public Health of Cuba reported today that after yesterday’s tests, 25 new positive cases of Covid-19 appeared. In Cuba, since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic last March, and to date, no pediatric patients have died, said Dr. Francisco Durán, national director of epidemiology.
The Ministry of Public Health official, in his usual press conference on the behavior of the pandemic, explained that of the 300 children under 20 years of age infected with the disease in the country, none has had complications and all have evolved favorably.
He emphasized the responsibility of parents and families in general to avoid the spread of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, which is still present in 185 countries with more than 17 million confirmed cases and 666,864 deaths.
Durán reiterated that the risk is still extremely high, so compliance with control and protection measures is essential to prevent the spread of the disease.
The epidemiologist highlighted the preventive treatment carried out throughout the country since the beginning of the pandemic, with the isolation of contacts of confirmed cases and suspects.
He also called for the fight to be more demanding with violations, “these violations must be reported,” he said.
“What our country has done to control COVID-19 despite the limitations and the U.S. blockade, does not deserve that indolent people violate the established norms and endanger the population,” he concluded.
As of yesterday’s close, July 30, 423 patients were in hospitals for clinical epidemiological surveillance; another 3,450 people were being monitored in their homes, from Primary Health Care, the doctor said.
He said that for COVID-19, 3,696 samples were studied, resulting in 11 positives, with which the country accumulates 264,147 samples and 2,608 positives, which is equivalent to 0.99%.
