This was confirmed to JIT by IváAlba (+87 kg), gold at the recent World Taekwondo Championship in Manchester, England, will give prestige to the national event to be organized by the city of Bayamon Fernández, president of the local federation, who added that all the members of the delegation attending the event on European soil, in which Cuba ranked eighth by country, will be present.
“Our best taekwondokas will be there, as they are the leaders in their respective divisions. Several have to defend their reign,” he added.
There will be competition in the Olympic divisions, said Jorge Hechavarría, the discipline’s methodologist.
As circulated by the national commission, the event will include for the second consecutive year the poomsae, an imaginary individual and team combat modality.
Santiago’s Tania Indira Delgado and Camagüey’s Alejandro Peña will defend their reigns, while it is striking that the duo and mixed trio events, dominated a year ago by the capital and Santiago, respectively, have not been called.
Camaguey hosted the previous event, when Santiago de Cuba, Havana and Holguín climbed the podium by provinces, in that order.
