Eight new positive cases of COVID-19 in Cuba and first case of hospital discharge

As of yesterday’s close, March 23, eight new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed, for a cumulative total of 48 in the country.

A 57-year-old Cuban citizen residing in the municipality of Plaza de la Revolución, Havana. She arrived in the country on March 15 from Spain. He began on the very 15th with symptoms and on the 18th he was admitted to the Dr. Luis Díaz Soto Naval Hospital as a suspicious case. It is still progressing satisfactorily up to the present.

Cuban citizen of 42 years of age with residence in the municipality and province of Pinar del Río. He arrived in the country on March 11 from Montevideo, Uruguay. On the 16th he began to show symptoms and on the 20th he was admitted to the León Cuervo Rubio Hospital as a suspicious case. He is still evolving satisfactorily up to now.

A 60 year-old Cuban lady residing in the municipality of Cotorro, province of Havana. She arrived in the country on March 15 from Asturias, Spain. On March 17, she began to show symptoms and on March 19, she was admitted to the Hospital Dr. Luis Díaz Soto as a suspected case. He continues to evolve satisfactorily until now.

A 60-year-old Russian woman, with residence in Playa municipality, Havana province. She arrived in the country on March 15 from the Dominican Republic. She began with symptoms on the 18th and on the 19th she was admitted to the IPK as a suspicious case. She is still evolving satisfactorily up to the present time.

Cuban citizen with residence in the United States, 36 years old. He lives in the municipality of Palma Soriano, province of Santiago de Cuba. He arrived in the country on March 21 from the United States. He began with symptoms on the 15th and on the 22nd he was admitted to Villa Colibri as a suspicious case. He is still evolving satisfactorily at present.

A 42-year-old Cuban citizen residing in the municipality and province of Ciego de Avila. She arrived in the country on March 15 from Louisiana, United States. She began with symptoms on the 17th and on the 19th she was admitted to the Nguyen Van Troi isolation center as a suspected case. She is still progressing satisfactorily at present.

Cuban citizen of 49 years of age with a history of Arterial Hypertension. He lives in the municipality of Taguasco, province of Sancti Spíritus. He arrived in the country on March 17 from the Dominican Republic. He began with symptoms on the 17th and on the 21st he was admitted to the Rehabilitation Hospital as a suspected case. He is still progressing satisfactorily up to the present time.

Cuban citizen of 49 years of age with a history of Arterial Hypertension and Diabetes Mellitus. He lives in Placetas municipality, Villa Clara province. He arrived in the country on March 20 from the United States. He began with symptoms on the 21st and on the 22nd he was admitted to Manuel Piti Fajardo Hospital as a suspected case. He is still progressing satisfactorily up to the present time.

Out of the 48 patients diagnosed with the disease, 46 have been admitted, two of them in critical condition and one in serious condition. A medical team of specialists in intensive care and the Ministry of Public Health’s Expert Group are providing ongoing care and monitoring of these patients. The remaining patients show a stable clinical evolution.

Yesterday, the 25-year-old patient, resident of Santa Clara, Villa Clara province, husband of the Bolivian citizen, was released from the IPK. He continues to be admitted to his home for 14 days, under daily medical supervision.

In Cuba, until March 23, 1,229 patients, 174 of them foreigners and 1,055 Cubans, are being admitted for clinical and epidemiological surveillance in the isolation and care centers created for this purpose. Another 33,132 people are being monitored from the Primary Health Care Center in their homes.

Worldwide, 338,307 cases have been confirmed, with 14,602 deaths in 164 countries and a death rate of 4.32%. The World Health Organization reports 102 countries with transmission. In the Region of the Americas, 33 countries and 11 overseas territories are affected. There have been 41,879 confirmed cases and 554 deaths.
