Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Republic of Cuba, in a presentation on Cuban television, communicated to the people the government’s determination to confront Covid-19 and win with the measures being taken at the national level and with the support, understanding and solidarity of each individual.

Force Cuba, that we will live and win, affirmed Diaz-Canel at the conclusion of his speech at the Mesa Redonda of the Cubavisión channel, in which other authorities of the country also intervened to present the details of the Plan of Measures approved by the government and the Communist Party of Cuba, to avoid the spreading of the coronavirus.

The president said that fear does not prevent contagion, but serenity, discipline, a sense of responsibility, collaboration and solidarity, which are inherent to Cubans, can help prevent its spread and transmission.

The victory that will always await us can be found if we take seriously and without panic the mission of protecting ourselves and contributing to the protection of the world, and that victory will be precisely overcoming the challenges of this pandemic, he said in the presence of Manuel Marrero Cruz, Prime Minister of the Island, and other members of the Council of Ministers.

The Cuban President pointed out that the country does not have any special antidote to face the virus, but what it does have is an educated, informed, responsible, supportive and disciplined people.

We have a public health system for all, mass organizations with the capacity to convene and take community action, a scientific community dedicated to creating for life, and an effective civil defense system, he added.

Díaz-Canel Bermúdez said that, together with these strengths, Cuba has more than 60 years of training in a long race of resistance to the harsh wars of all kinds that have been imposed on it, and which, even under the cruel circumstances of this pandemic, are sustaining and strengthening their historic adversaries against the Cuban people.

This does not make us invulnerable, but it explains the serenity and organization with which the Cuban state is facing the new challenge together with its people, he said.

The president clarified that the above-mentioned measures were approved this afternoon at a meeting of the Political Bureau, presided over by Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party.

The regulation of the entrance to the country, the promotion of social distancing to protect people at high risk, the reorganization of commerce and gastronomy, as well as other actions of an economic nature, are among the measures that the government will implement to confront the new coronavirus, which already has 21 patients in the largest of the Antilles.
