Havana, June 11 (Prensa Latina) More than 100,000 sick people from Covid-19 have been treated by Cuban doctors serving in other countries, said today the island’s foreign minister, Bruno Rodriguez.
On his Twitter account the foreign minister said that Caribbean health professionals from 34 brigades of the Henry Reeve contingent joined others working in 59 countries and have treated 109,211 patients with the new disease.
In a context where the pandemic threatens everyone equally, solidarity and humanism save lives, added the head of Cuban diplomacy.
The day before, President Miguel Díaz-Canel, during his speech at the high-level virtual conference of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People’s Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP), reiterated his country’s willingness to cooperate with other states.
Cuba offers the experiences of its national strategy to overcome the effects of Covid-19, said the president, stressing that while 80 percent of serious and critical patients in the world die, Cuban science and medicine save 80 percent of them.
Díaz-Canel added that more than 2,500 health workers are contributing in solidarity to mitigate the impact of the pandemic in 26 nations, at the request of their governments, which joined more than 28,000 already providing services.
The president rejected the huge and mendacious campaign of the U.S. government against Cuban medical cooperation, which deprived vulnerable populations in Brazil, Bolivia and Ecuador from health services, where the pandemic is wreaking havoc.
