Santo Domingo, May 30 (Prensa Latina) The Cuban Baseball Federation formally requested the Caribbean Professional Baseball Commissioner, Dominican Juan Francisco Puello, to become a full member of that organization, according to a report released today in this capital.
The document was delivered to the Commissioner at the headquarters of the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation (CBPC), located in Santo Domingo, by a delegation headed by the president of the Cuban league, Higinio Velez.
In its letter, the Island thanks the CBPC and its member leagues for admitting Cuba’s participation as an invited country in the Caribbean Series from 2014 to 2019, but they consider that it is time to formally express their request to become full members.
In statements to Prensa Latina, Puello said that the Confederation received the application with pleasure and will make every effort to get Cuba admitted although ‘it does not only depend on the organization’.
We must work on some points that do not depend on us but we are already working with the objective of achieving it and we hope to have Cubans in the CBPC, he added.
He also stated that the parties decided to hold an upcoming meeting in Havana on a date yet to be decided, which will depend on the progress made in resolving the issue.
